The Washington Football Team moved quickly to wait for Derrius Guice to return from its roster after he was arrested last week on charges of domestic violence and head coach Ron Rivera discussed that decision during a Monday video conference with Monday.
Rivera said he spoke with team members about the call to cut Guice and told her it was in the ‘best interest of our organization’ to continue without Guice. He said the team would benefit if it was the right call and would fall on him if it did not, but that he “takes full responsibility if we move forward making sure we try to do the right things.”
“Very difficult decision if you now have to release a talented young footballer,” Rivera said. “This kind of circumstance, this kind of situation, we take these accusations very, very seriously.”
Linebacker Reuben Foster landed with Washington after he was slashed by the 49ers in the wake of a 2018 domestic violence arrest that did not lead to criminal charges. Foster was activated from the PUP list this weekend and Rivera said each circumstance would be treated differently without saying if there were other factors that led the team to continue without Guice.
