Gregian crashed in the lap at the start of Sunday’s race in Broren, hitting an obstacle as he exited Turn 3, at a speed of 137 mph, recording a dominance of more than 50G.
The Haas F1 car broke down on impact and flames erupted, with Grossgen escaping from his cockpit which was embedded in the barrier.
The Frenchman quickly escaped, only burning in his hands and avoiding any broken bones.
Grossian will be in hospital at least until Wednesday and will miss this week’s Sakhir Grand Prix, but is hopeful of returning to Abu Dhabi at the end of the season.
Speaking in his first extended interview since the accident, Grossen joked that he had “Mickey Mouse’s hands” because of his bandages, but he was fine and had no issues.
Recalling his immediate thoughts on the accident, Grossje admitted that it would take more than a 28-second period to get out of the car.
“I don’t know if the word miracle exists or can be used, but in any case I would say it’s not my time. [to die], ”Gross said TF1.
“It felt like more than 2 seconds. I see my visors all turning orange, I see the flames on the left side of the car. I thought about a lot of things, including Nikki Lauda, and I thought it was not possible. So, not now. I couldn’t finish my story in Formula 1.
“And then, for my kids, I told myself I had to get out. I put my hand in the fire, so I felt burning on the chassis.
“I walked out, then I felt like someone was suing, so I knew I was out.”
Grossen revealed that his five-year-old son Simon believes he has “magical powers” and that he has “magical love shields” that protect him.
“These are very harsh words from the kids,” Grozgen said. “My oldest true, who is seven years old, is more discerning, trying to understand.
“And my little one drew a picture, ‘for the wound on his father’s hand.’
Grossen admitted that he would probably need to discuss the trauma of such a dramatic accident because he feared he would be killed.
“I was more intimidated by my family and friends, obviously my children who are the greatest source of pride and strength for me, in the end than me.”
“I think there’s going to be some psychological work, because I really saw death.
“Even in Hollywood Hollywood, we can’t do images like that. This is the biggest crash I’ve ever seen in my life. A car catching fire, exploding, and a battery burst into flames, so it added a lot of energy to the effect.”
Grossen thanked him for the message he received, but reiterated that he was eager to get back in the car in time for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
“I would say there’s a feeling of being happy to be alive, from looking at things differently.”
“But in Abu Dhabi I need to get back in the car if possible, to finish my story differently with Formula One.
“It was almost like a second birth. Coming out of those flames is something that will mark my life forever.
“I have a lot of people who have shown me love and it has touched me so much, and at times I feel a little teary.”
