Rochester shooting: Two killed and 14 injured during backyard party shooting

Police responded to a shooting call and found about 100 people running down the street, described as an Extreme Rochester police chief, Mark Simmons, “a very chaotic scene.”

“We can see and observe many of the victims of the shooting at that time,” he said.

The Democrat & Chronicle reported that the neighborhood where the shooting took place was close to the Rochester Public Market.

Police did not release the names of the two victims but said they were between 18 and 22 years old. There are currently no suspects in custody and it is too early to say how many shooters were there, Simmons added.

“If you ask me, this is a tragedy of epic proportions,” Sims said. “Sixteen victims have not heard.”

The incident, which took place when the shooting happened, was “some kind of backyard party,” Simmons said. Police did not know the party and did not receive any calls to disrupt them. The incident is under investigation.

According to the city’s website, Rochester officials have issued guidelines to residents to limit social gatherings to household members and not to gather in groups.
“Unnecessary gatherings such as birthday parties, weddings and holiday picnics are banned,” the website says.
