Riverside County hospitalizations for the new coronavirus fell for the second consecutive day, as 237 new cases and three more deaths were aware Thursday, June 25, on the county’s public health website.
In a sign of improvement, on Thursday afternoon the county no longer exceeded the state threshold for COVID-19 hospitalizations. The county remains on the state coronavirus watch list and exceeds state coronavirus thresholds for every 100,000 residents and the percentage of COVID-19 tests that test positive.
Across the county, there are now 15,142 cases and 435 deaths from COVID-19. Weekly public health updates generally include diagnoses and deaths that occurred over a period of days, and it takes time for that information to reach the public health department.
Hospitalizations fell in three from Wednesday to 311, with 95 of those patients in intensive care, three more than the previous day. The county set new hospitalization highs for four consecutive days, a streak that began last week.
Ten COVID-19 patients hospitalized in Riverside County are from Imperial County, which sends patients north under a state mutual aid agreement for emergency services. Imperial County patients are not counted among the county’s case totals.
Officially, 7,272 in Riverside County have recovered from the virus, 1.6% more than Wednesday. Official recoveries are defined as infected residents who are no longer isolated, show no symptoms, and have closed their public health cases.
State prisons in the county have 521 active cases, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. County jails have 247 cases with 207 recoveries.
Long-term care facilities, including nursing homes, have had 1,794 confirmed cases, including 1,141 among patients and 653 among staff.
More than 201,000 COVID-19 tests have been performed in the county, nearly 3% more than Wednesday.
