Riot testified again in Portland after public marches at police union building

A riot was declared in Portland Sunday night as officers tried to stop another night of unrest that saw protesters march on a police station building, throw objects at officers, block a road and set up dumpster fires, according to multiple reports.

Roughly 200 people marched from Kenton Park to the Portland Police Association building just before 10 a.m., which on Saturday was the scene of another protest.

When protesters arrived outside the building, police warned them not to engage in criminal activity.

“To those who gather on North Lombard Street, you are in the PPA office. Do not participate in criminal activities such as vandalism or attempt to set the building on fire,” police said. “These types of activities will not be allowed and will result in arrest and potential use of force such as unjustified ammunition and tear gas.”

Protesters blocked access to the road with dumpsters and fencing, according to The Oregonian. Flames were seen rising from dumpsters in the middle of the street

Police in riot gear stormed a rally on Friday, removing hundreds of protesters by truck.

“The meeting on North Denver Ave at North Russet St is now being declared. All persons in the area on North must now disperse by traveling north. You are instructed to disperse immediately,” police said.

Protesters would later move to a local park before dozens returned to the police station building and authorities ordered the people gathering to leave.

Officers would form a line around the building and several people were reportedly arrested all night, the paper reported.

The protests took place on her 74th night on Sunday, since George Floyd’s death in police speech in Minneapolis.

Three officers were injured, including two who were taken to a hospital, during an attempt to wipe out the crowd of hundreds of people outside the union building last Saturday. The two hospital officers have since been released. Nine people were arrested during the protest, police said in a statement.
