Manchester United favorite Rio Ferdinand selected two players who deserved individual praise for their impact over the course of the season to help secure Champions League football.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team faced an uphill battle to achieve a top-four result after a disappointing first half of the campaign, but changed course in 2020.
That culminated in a 2-0 victory against Leicester City at King Power Stadium on the final day of the Premier League, which was a winning draw in the search for a place in Europe’s elite competition.
Bruno Fernandes’ penalty sent United on its way to victory, with Jesse Lingard netting late to double the lead, and the Portuguese midfielder was chosen alongside Mason Greenwood as deserving of individual praise from Ferdinand.
Well done Ole and the Manchester United team for qualifying for [the] Champions League, “Ferdinand wrote on Facebook.” It didn’t seem like it was on the cards at an earlier point in the season, but the boys did it.
“Bruno Fernandes’ inspiration was enormous (how many goals involved), the recruitment continues with him. Is there room for improvement? Obviously yes, and the recruitment in this window will be key.
“That style of attack, rhythm and excitement seems to have returned now and can continue for a long time. Special mention for Mason Greenwood as well.”
“His attitude has been first class since he entered [the] Manchester United’s first team and closing a regular place at his age, no matter how many goals he has scored as well (compared to Rooney at the same age).
“Next season closing the gap in the teams above them has to be the goal and get the level of consistency needed to compete in the Premier League. Oh, and a drink would be nice too!
“It is essential to have the right players with the right attitude to congratulate the team. Quality, hunger, respect and dedication to a few [of the] necessary features in this recruitment window. “
