Rio Ferdinand has criticized David de Gea after his mistake in Manchester United’s clash at home with Bournemouth.
The visitors opened the scoring in the 15th minute when Junior Stanislas defeated De Gea on the near post after Harry Maguire went nuts in his defense.
De Gea has struggled at times this season and has received some criticism from certain quarters and Ferdinand provided more during comments on the clash.
He told BT Sport: “They had a terrible start. There were mistakes everywhere. Harry (Maguire) merged. De Gea has to improve on the near post.
“It was a cheeky nutmeg, but De Gea has to cover that area at the nearby post.
“If the ball went through the near post when I was playing, it would signal the goalkeeper.”
United soon changed the game when Mason Greenwood shot home before a penalty by Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial’s curled end out of the area made it 3-1 at halftime.
In Martial’s recent revival, Ferdinand added: “It was an incredible attack by Martial. He seems like a different human being. He seems confident.
“He’s always been known as a grumpy character, but now you can see him smile. He’s a different character under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.”
United admitted after the break when Eric Bailly was found guilty of committing a handball offense and Joshua King scored, but Greenwood made it 4-2 with another wonderful finish before Bruno Fernandes also found the back of the net.
