To mark the big 8-0, Ringo Starr plans to celebrate online with a Starr broadcast benefit called “Ringo Show’s Big Birthday” next Tuesday, July 7.
Starr traditionally spreads peace and love outside the Capitol Records Tower in Hollywood, California for his birthday, but he doesn’t let the coronavirus pandemic stop him. He recruited Beatles member Paul McCartney, Ringo Star and His All Star Band guitarist Joe Walsh, Gary Clark Jr., Sheryl Crow, Sheila E. and Ben Harper to present performances at home and feature never-before-seen concert footage . The proceeds raised during the “Ringo’s Big Birthday Show” will benefit these four organizations: Black Lives Matter Global Network, David Lynch Foundation, MusiCares and WaterAid.
“As everyone knows, I love meeting fans for peace and love on my birthday,” said the press release. “But this year, I want everyone to be safe at home, so I called some friends and we organized this Big Birthday Show so that I could celebrate my birthday with all of you, with good music for some great charities. I hope everyone will join. me! Peace and love, Ringo. “
The big birthday party will also premiere a guest star version of Starr’s “Give More Love” starring Willie Nelson, Jeff Bridges, Jackson Browne, T Bone Burnett, Elvis Costello, Rodney Crowell, Steve Earle, Peter Frampton, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Kenny Loggins, Michael McDonald and Keb ‘Mo’.
“Ringo’s Big Birthday Show” will air on their YouTube channel at 8pm ET on July 7. It will also upload a playlist of tribute performance videos dedicated to the musicians who previously recorded with Starr, performed at their previous birthday celebrations, and recorded new versions of their classics, including Costello, Earle, Frampton, Ben Dickey, Ben Folds, Bettye LaVette, Colin Hay, Gregg Rolie, Judy Collins, Richard Marx, and Steve Lukather.
