Riders coach John Gruden calls the Patriots’ cam ‘slam’ Newton a power forward after playing quarterback

John Gruden met Cam Newton in 2011 as part of his QB Camp series for ESPN, which is time to reunite with Gruden’s Las Vegas riders facing Newton and the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium (CBS, 1pm ET) on Sunday.

“I haven’t seen a lot of men walking over my door who look like K. I call it ‘Slam’. Slam Newton. That’s the nickname I gave them. It’s a power forward playing quarterback,” Told reporters of the Patriots.

Now Gruden’s 2-0 riders must slow down the 6-foot-5, 245-pound Newton, who was a dual threat in the Patriots ’1-1 start. Newton is — of -63 for 552 yards, with one touchdown and one obstacle, while ૨ 26 carry and 122 yards added on four touchdowns.

“Why does he think that’s normal? He’s in danger of doing a lot of different things,” said Gruden, whose team is getting a nice 34-34 victory over the New Orleans Saints on Monday night.

“It’s a tough operation operation. It’s always a double whammy when you play against the Newton and New England Patriots, and now that they’ve joined forces, it’s a double whammy for every defensive staff, every coach and every team that comes there.”

Gruden said he is happy to see Newton healthy again given his style of play after the game and leg injuries.

“When people walk by his right shoulder they run power plays to his left. [Then] He gets bored and throws bullets all over the field. I don’t know how he does it. “I think it’s amazing,” he said.
