Richard Sherman wants to live with the San Francisco 49ers in 2021. Head coach Kyle Shanahan wants Sherman to return with the team.

However, Sherman knows it is highly unlikely that circumstances will reveal itself as his contract is set to expire at the end of the season.

Sherman said over the weekend that he doesn’t think he’ll be able to stay with the 49-year-old next year given the roster situation and team building. Sherman expanded the ideas on Thursday.

“I know the pay cap,” Sherman told NBC Sports Bay Area’s Ali Thanawal. “Deal with [NFLPA], Deal with the league. And I know the status of their pay cap. ”

Sherman serves as his own agent so he can deal directly with the team on contract matters. He knows which of his teammates are also for a new or restructured contract and understands where he is on the priority list. After he does the math, Sherman understands where he sits.

“Like I said I had a conversation, I mean, if there’s a miracle, I’m sure there’s an opening,” Sherman said. “But there are 40 free agents, and they will probably have 30 million or less hats [space]. They’ve got to bring Trent back [Williams], Valued at 20 million. They’ll have to pay Fred [Warner], Valued at 18 18 million a year. And anyone who knows the situation understands that. ”
