Richard Sherman Can’t Imagine a COVID-19 Scenario That Would Close the NFL

Richard Sherman lashed out at the NFL’s COVID-19 plans.

Now he is convinced that the NFL will go through the 2020 season no matter what.

The outspoken cornerback of the San Francisco 49ers told Pro Football Focus during an Instagram Live session on Monday that he doesn’t see the NFL closing the season due to the pandemic.

“I don’t see the league saying, ‘Hey, we’re going to close if 10 people get it, 15 people get it, 50 people get it,'” Sherman said, according to San Jose Mercury-News. “I see them saying, ‘Hey, take out those people, replace them with new people, and play along.”

Sherman has been critical of the league’s COVID-19 planning

Sherman has supported the league to advance this fall, but has criticized the NFL’s plans for COVID-19 safety. He did it last week, so along with other players who talked about league preparations.

The league and NFLPA have agreed to test protocols prior to the opening of the training camp. But Sherman is skeptical that the league will make COVID-19 a priority over the end of the season. He exposed several scenarios in which he imagined that the league would continue amid outbreaks.

‘Lose the game … keep moving forward’

His predictions came the same day that MLB promised to continue amid a COVID-19 outbreak among Miami Marlins players and coaches less than a week from the start of their season.

Sherman anticipates a similar response from the NFL.

“If half a team succeeds, they lose the game and the next game continues. This is how I see them finish. ”

That pretty much sums up MLB’s response to the Marlins outbreak. The league canceled Monday’s Marlins’ opener against the Baltimore Orioles and continued its season.

Meanwhile, Sherman predicts that the football played is a poor product with injuries.

“This is not going to be the most beautiful football,” Sherman continued. “This will be a year where you will see some high numbers of interception, some high numbers of injuries. … The league still doesn’t know what practice will be like and we’re about to start. “
