As reported by Dave Meltzer, Rey Mysterio is currently working without a WWE contract since his deal has officially expired.

Rey Mysterio signed a contract in September 2018, and although it has now come to an end, the WWE veteran will continue to work for the company.

No further updates were provided on whether or not Rey Mysterio had signed a contract extension.

Rey Mysterio WWE status and future

WWE is building up towards Dominik Mysterio’s debut in the ring and that could be one of the main reasons why Mysterio has continued to work for the company despite his contract coming to an end.

Rey Mysterio and his son are currently involved in a heated fight with Seth Rollins and his band of disciples. It all started when Seth Rollins injured Rey Mysterio’s eye with a barbaric steel footstep attack. Mysterio recently returned to WWE TV, but he was not alone, as Dominik shared the same desire for revenge as his legendary father.

As previously reported, Dominik and Rey Mysterio were originally scheduled to attend RAW last week. However, due to the increase in COVID-19 cases in WWE, the decision was made to change its segment to a prerecorded video from home.

The plan currently appears to be an individual match between Rey Mysterio and Seth Rollins at Extreme Rules. The story is expected to spread further, which could lead to Dominik’s highly anticipated ring debut.

It is a known fact that Rey Mysterio wants to fight alongside his son before retiring from professional wrestling and, that day, when father and son share the same ring in a fight, it is not that far. SummerSlam appears to be the perfect PPV to book the impending debut, but it will be interesting to see how WWE reaches that destination.

Rey Mysterio, as things stand, is no longer under contract with WWE, but he must complete his angle with Rollins and Dominik before he possibly ends up with the company.
