Researchers publish a review article on the physics of interacting particles

Detective work in theoretical physics

Scientific articles in the field of physics are often very short and deal with a very restricted subject. A notable exception to this is an article recently published by Monster of Universities and physicists from D ડsseldorf. The article is 127 pages long, citing a total of 1,075 sources and deals with a wide range of disciplines ranging from biophysics to quantum mechanics.

This article is a review by so-called physicists Michael Te Vrgat and Professor Rafael Vittowski, in collaboration with the Institute of Theoretical Physics and the Center for Soft Nanoscience University of Manchester. Theoretical Physics II at Düsseldorf University in collaboration with Hartmoot Lવેwen. The purpose of such review articles is to provide an introduction to a specific subject area and to summarize and evaluate the current state of research in that area for the benefit of other researchers. “In our case we deal with the theory used in many fields – the so-called dynamic density functional theory (DDFT),” explains the last author Rafael Witkowski. “We work with all aspects of this topic, so the article felt very long and comprehensive.”

DDFT is found in liquids as a method for describing systems with a large number of interacting particles. It is important to understand these systems in numerous areas of research, such as chemistry, solid state physics, or biophysics. This has led to a wide variety of applications for DDFT, for example in materials science and biology. “DDFT and related methods have been developed and applied by various researchers in a variety of contexts,” says lead author Michael Te Vrgat. “We examined what approaches there are and how they are connected – and for this purpose we needed to do a lot of work to act like historians and investigators.”

The article has been published in the journal Advances in physics, Which has a factor of 300..91 – which makes it the most important journal in the field of condensed matter physics. It publishes only four to six articles each year. It also featured the first article on DDFT written by Robert Evans Advances in physics, In 1979. “It is particularly gratifying that our review has also been published in this journal,” says Hartmoot Louwen, secondary author. “It deals with all the important theoretical aspects and areas of use of DDFT and will probably become a standard work in the field of our research.”
