A new study by the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine can explore the potential effects of Covid-19 on male fertility and sexually transmitted diseases.
The researchers looked at the tissues from the autopsies of six people who had died of COVD-19 infection and found that the virus was still in their testicles.
They also found Covid-19 in the testicles of a 28-year-old male patient who had coronavirus and recovered without showing symptoms.
Dr. Ranjith Ramasmi, an associate professor and director of reproductive urology at the Miller School, said, “We also identified the presence of the virus in a man who had a biopsy test for infertility, but had a previous history.
“So the patient tested negative and was asymptomatic after doing COVID-19 but even then the test showed the presence of the virus inside. This discovery is novel, remarkable and certainly suitable for further research, ‘said Dr. Ramasami added.
The study went further on the question of how much of the virus needs to be present in semen tests, and which can be sexually transmitted.
“I am absolutely certain that, like mumps, about 20 to 30% of men will have some kind of effective fertility in their future,” said Dr. Ramasmi.
More research is needed to fully understand how CV-tissue reacts to CID-19, but this current study is a step towards a better understanding of the virus.
Dr. Rama. Ramasami recommended that men of all ages who have Covid-19 and suffer from testicular pain should see a urologist.
“Taurus pain, along with other symptoms, may be an indication that Covid-19 has entered the testes, and if men are thinking about fertility and / or low testosterone, now or in the future, they should have their testosterone levels assessed by blood.” Testing with analysis and evaluation of sperm parameters, ”according to Dr. Ramsami.
