The deadline for franchise players to sign multi-year contracts with their teams is Wednesday, and that leaves the Cowboys with a couple of days to reach an agreement with quarterback Dak Prescott.
It doesn’t seem like someone should hold their breath for news of such an agreement in the next 48 hours or so. According to multiple reports, the Cowboys and Prescott are nowhere near finding the common ground that has eluded them for quite some time.
Deadlines can sometimes make deals happen after they seemed unlikely a couple of days earlier, but there isn’t much reason to think things are going to happen in Dallas. The two sides have entered into talks about a contract extension since Prescott became eligible for one last year and have been unable to close the deal.
The length of the contract has been said to have been one of the tipping points, as the Cowboys want more years than Prescott. The quarterback is expected to earn $ 31.4 million this year under the tag, and that number would rise to $ 37.68 million if tagged again in 2021.
