The COVID-19 outbreak reported in WWE has been covered extensively in recent days and more details are revealed as the company struggles to create new content. Renee Young, Adam Pearce, Jamie Noble and Kayla Braxton are confirmed to be positive from WWE, while the overall figure is reportedly over thirty.
Dave Meltzer provided more behind-the-scenes updates regarding WWE and the COVID-19 situation in the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio.
Meltzer confirmed that all talents had been told not to address the COVID-19 situation publicly. Renee Young, however, did it alone and WWE had no prior knowledge of the presenter who tweeted about her positive test.
Meltzer also revealed that a talent family who was in the Performance Center has at least two cases of positive coronaviruses.
“I know of a family that has at least a couple of people who tested positive, yes, they have at least two people who tested positive. It’s a really bad situation.”
The sudden increase in the number of positive cases in the company, unsurprisingly, led to many changes in the recent episode of SmackDown. Many WWE superstars stayed off television, and WWE chose to stream the WrestleMania 36 Boneyard match to fill the time.
The best WWE superstars absent from SmackDown
AJ Styles and Daniel Bryan were involved in an interview segment with Renee Young in the ring on the June 19 episode of SmackDown, and that could be why they weren’t used on SmackDown. Styles was originally slated to defend the IC title against Drew Gulak.
Mojo Rawley and Chad Gable, who worked closely with producer Jamie Noble, were also not reserved on the show. Mandy Rose, Otis, Sonya Deville and Tucker also stayed out of television. Meltzer noted that he did not know if the Superstars mentioned above had withdrawn from television or tested positive.
Sheamus was also absent, and his scheduled segment with Jeff Hardy has been postponed.
“AJ, Daniel Bryan and Sheamus were created for things on the show, and they weren’t there. Now, they announced Sheamus about something for next week. But, either these guys tested positive, or they left because people did a positive review and also Otis, Tucker, Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville, Mojo Rawley and Chad Gable were guys who weren’t there week in. And Rose and Deville are legitimately best friends and have been for years and have always been around. Obviously, Renee was interviewing AJ and Daniel Bryan in the middle of the ring last week, that’s all.
And behind the scenes, Mandy Rose and Otis make all of these sketches together. As for whether they came out or tested positive, I don’t know, but everyone was very aware of their absence. “
WWE’s original plan was to record two full episodes of RAW and SmackDown each over the weekend, but the plans were changed. WWE has also updated its upcoming recording schedule in light of all the recent developments.
