Report: WWE Considered Randy Orton Won WWE Championship WrestleMania 37

The biggest party of the summer is only two days away, as SummerSlam 2020 will be broadcast from the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida. Multiple header matches have been added to the map as Drew McIntyre defends the WWE Championship against Randy Orton, Dominik Mysterio will defend his father’s honor in a Street Fight against Seth Rollins, and Braun Strowman and “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt will clash over the Universal title.

A major title change could be on the cards, as WWE is apparently considering reserving Randy Orton to defeat The Scottish Psychopath and win the WWE title.

Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that if Orton actually leaves the ThunderDome with the championship, WWE has expected him to hold the belt until WrestleMania 37 and his I Quit match with Edge would become a title fight.

However, Meltzer notes that other members of WWE Creative have urged McIntyre to stay because they feel the company needs a newer star at the top of the map, as opposed to someone who has been around for a long time prominently displayed.
