Helm, 25, is a 6-foot-4, 255-pound tight end who entered the league as a drafted free agent from Duke in 2019. If the 53-man roster was not made, Helm was added to the 49ers training squad around early 2019. He was promoted to the active roster on December 12, but inactive for the remainder of the regular season and postseason.

The Kansas City Star’s Herbie Teope notes that TE2 candidate Deon Yelder has not practiced since Kansas City started padded workouts on Friday, so this adds some competition to that position group. Helm will compete with Yelder, Nick Keizer and offseason addition Ricky Seals-Jones for a spot on the 53-man team.
If he sticks, Helm will be the only player on the Chiefs roster who will not be especially love the upcoming ring ceremony.
