Rep. Chris Jacobs, RN.Y., claimed side with House of Representatives Democrats to provide a $ 25 billion boost in funding for the U.S. Postal Service, but said he accidentally hit “the wrong button” on Saturday.
The US House of Representatives passed a USPS funding package with 26 Republicans breaking party lines in a 257-150 vote on the science-backed average science, intended to ensure smooth mail-in for these presidential elections.
“[A]after announcing that he voted yes over the post office bill, @RepJacobs just called me to tell me that he accidentally voted no. ‘I must have hit the wrong button,’ he told me. Stories updated soon, ”Jerry Zremski, Washington’s chief of staff for The Buffalo News, tweeted after the vote Saturday.
Fox News confirmed that Jacobs voted against the bill.
HOUSE FITS $ 25B IN ‘EMERGENCY’ POST OFFICE FUNDING, WHITE HOUSE THREATENS VETO
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called the rare “emergency” vote in the midst of the summer recess, in an attempt to pass a bill that fights what some believe is an attempt by President Trump and the Postmaster-General, Louis DeJoy , to sabotage the November 3 presidential election.
The bill would not only provide a one-off funding initiative, but it would reverse all new austerity measures recently taken by the Postal Service and prohibit efforts attempting to carry mail.
Zremski tweeted that Jacobs “was on his way to the airport, called the House and was told he was too late to make a change, due to his mood error.”
HOUSE DEMOCRATS FREE ADVANCE WITH $ 25B POST OFFICE PAYMENT, GOP INCLUDED RARE SATURDAY VOICE OF A ‘JOKE’
Although the bill is in the House of Representatives with the support of GOP, the GOP-led Senate is not expected to pass the bill and the White House has already said it will veto it.
“Representatives of the Post Office have stated several times that they do not need money, and will not make any changes,” Trump tweeted after the vote.
“This is all another HOAX by the Democrats to give $ 25 billion in unnecessary dollars for political purposes, without talking about the Universal Mail-In Ballot Scam.”
Trump has already allowed open attempts to stop funding USPS to prevent mail-in votes during the election.
Conservative lawmakers on the hill were quick to call alleged delays “conspiracy theories” – despite the Postmaster General asking Friday for such delays.

Rep. Carolyn Maloney, chair of the House Oversight Committee, has submitted an internal document showing significant drops in recent service standards to the USPS.
“To those who still claim that there are ‘no delays’ and that these reports are just ‘conspiracy theories’, I hope these new data cause them to reconsider their position and support our urgent legislation today,” Maloney, DN. Y. , said Saturday.
