Warner Bros.’s parent company AT&T seems to have taken a dramatic U-turn and decided to take its gaming division off the market. It was speculated that the giant retailer was NetherRealm and Rocksteady was running because he was trying to shut down his interactive entertainment business to remove some notable debt.
However, this no longer appears to be the case. In an email to staff, CEO Jason Kilar stated that although the company will still undergo some structural changes, Warner Bros. Games will remain “part of the Studios and Networks group”. He added that while the changes prove “many can accept”, he is confident the company will “navigate successfully”.
While we do not yet know what the restructuring will mean for upcoming Warner Bros. releases, we can at least be sure that they will continue to launch on PlayStation platforms. Earlier, there were speculations that Microsoft acquired the division, along with the likes of Take-Two, EA, and Activision.
The timing is particularly pertinent, as Rocksteady recently posted its Suicide Squad title, which will be officially announced at a DC Comics event a little later in the month. A full-fledged Harry Potter RPG is also believed to be in development at Avalanche Software, while NetherRealm will likely be hard at work on their next big fighter, likely Injustice 3.
