(WISH) – The late Regis Philbin’s funeral and burial will be held on the campus of his alma mater, the University of Notre Dame, a university official confirmed Sunday.
The university did not say when the funeral would be held or if it would be open to the public.
The television presenter passed away on Friday, just over a month before his 89th birthday. He died of natural causes, according to a family statement to People magazine.
A Notre Dame graduate, Philbin once said he wanted to scatter his ashes there, according to his Associated Press obituary.
He is survived by his wife, Joy, and daughters JJ and Joanna Philbin, as well as daughter Amy Philbin with his first wife, Catherine Faylen, according to People.
The president of the university, the Rev. John I. Jenkins, CSC, released this statement about Philbin’s death:
Regis made millions on the air over the years, often sharing a passionate love for his alma mater with viewers. He will be remembered at Notre Dame for his unwavering support for the University and its mission, including the Philbin Studio Theater at our Performing Arts Center. He was also generous with his time and talent in supporting the South Bend Center for the Homeless and other worthy causes. Our prayers go out to his wife, Joy, and their daughters and the students of Notre Dame Joanna and JJ ”
