Regis Philbin will be buried on the campus of the University of Notre Dame, his beloved alma mater, according to reports.
There will be a funeral service for the talk show legend at the Catholic School’s famous Basilica of the Sacred Heart on the outskirts of South Bend, Indiana, followed by his burial at the university’s Cedar Grove cemetery, Fighting Irish officials told WSBT-TV.
Philbin died in his sleep Friday at age 88.
The artist was the longtime host of ABC-TV’s morning talk show “Live!” and the hit night game “Who wants to be a millionaire”.
Philbin graduated from Notre Dame and frequently revisited the campus and the area over the years, as well as getting excited about the school whenever he could on television.
“Regis made millions on the air over the years, often sharing a passionate love for his alma mater with viewers,” the school president, the Rev. John Jenkins, tweeted in a statement over the weekend.
“He will be remembered at Notre Dame for his unwavering support for the University and its mission, including the Philbin Studio Theater at our Performing Arts Center,” said Jenkins, referring to a $ 2.75 million donation the star gave to the project in 2001.
“He was also generous with his time and talent in supporting the South Bend Center for the Homeless and Other Worthy Causes,” added the president of the Philbin School.
