The first wave of foldable Android foldable phone type did not have a big impact. After the launch of the first-generation Motorola Razr, the company more or less confirmed that it was working on a successor, and the design of that “Razr 5G” may have leaked.
Evan Blass (@evleaks) released a photo of the “Motorola RAZR 2020 (aka RAZR 5G / Odyssey)” today. These appear to be 3D rendered, and you can faintly distinguish a “MOTOROLA CONFIDENTIAL” stamp.
The overall form factor, especially when open, does not change and the hinge mechanism remains the same. The notch on the front screen looks slightly shorter, while the camera lens is somewhat more pronounced. At the bottom, we see a smaller, smoother, and oddly hump without a fingerprint sensor.
The medium render suggests that this Razr 5G can be used at right angles. This coincides with the Galaxy Z Flip, although this device is positioned more at ~ 100 degrees tilt. You can see the screen in the center inward curve as part of Motorola’s focus for fold-free folding.
The farthest device in the distance shows the biggest change, albeit still a minor one: a very pronounced camera shot. The current Razr is already up, but this takes it a step further, especially as seen from this side angle. The closed form is much more than a design deviation from the original foldable phone from the 2000s with a sloping hump that starts from the top half.
The screen seems to be a little bigger and more from edge to edge, while we can distinguish a button on the right edge. It is unclear where Motorola is placing the fingerprint sensor. It could be on the other side or it could be a screen reader.
Meanwhile, a spec leak earlier this year suggests a Snapdragon 765 processor paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. A 5G device: With such a badge in the confirming status bar, it will have a larger 2,845 mAh battery and a 48MP main camera from Samsung, as well as a 20MP selfie shooter. A release with Android 10 is expected later this year.
