Redskins WR Emanuel Hall tears Achilles during training

WR Emanuel Hall of Washington Redskins has announced via his Instagram that he tore the Achilles on his left foot last month while exercising. Hall signed with the Redskins’ practice team in December last year, then signed a reserve / futures contract after the season ended.

Emanuel Hall was featured in Hogs Haven last week in a lesser-known player-focused article titled ‘Six Redskins That Could Surprise in 2020’. Here is what KS4GM wrote about Hall’s perspectives on forming the team:

Hall, originally projected by some to go in the third or fourth round of the 2019 draft, was eventually chosen by the Bears as an undrafted free agent last year. The Bears dropped him before the season, the Bucs picked him up, and added him to their practice squad. Discarded from his PS in September, he was added to the Redskins practice squad in December.

High speed (4.39 40) deep threat who had some injury problems in college, Hall is an interesting possible addition to the Redskins’ WR corps, particularly in light of the move to an Air Coryell-style offense. Given that Terry McLaurin is the only “safe” WR on the list at the moment, this may be Hall’s best (and last) chance to form an NFL team. You need to have improved the quality of your route and catch in the off season to take advantage of that opportunity.

Emanuel Hall also appeared in a draft profile at Hogs Haven. He caught 70 passes for 1,835 yards and 14 touchdowns during his past two seasons in Missouri. He was seen as a fast and deep threat who needed to work to improve his route.

Hall was considered a remote possibility on a list that features a very young WR group. Terry McLaurin is obviously the # 1 receiver, but after him there will be intense battles to complete the depth chart. Second-year WR teammates Steven Sims Jr. and Kelvin Harmon had playing time and should continue this season. Trey Quinn could go south if he doesn’t impress the new coaching staff.

The Redskins also selected Antonio Gandy-Golden this year. Darvin Kidsy Jr., Jordan Veasy, Jester Weah and Cam Sims are also returning this year to try to earn a spot. Cody Latimer was a veteran signing facing legal issues and is unlikely to be on the team if they can play a season this year. Washington also signed UDFAs Jonathan Johnson and Isaiah Wright after this year’s draft. Wright has received a lot of attention this offseason.
