Redskin trio of minority owners starting a search to sell stakes

The three minority Washington Redskins owners are trying to sell their shares in the team because “they are not happy to be partners” with owner Daniel Snyder, The Washington Post reported, citing sources familiar with the deliberations.

Prominent entrepreneurs Robert Rothman, Dwight Schar and Frederick W. Smith, who together own approximately 40% of the team, hired an investment banking firm to search for potential buyers, one source told The Post.

Pro Football Talk first reported that Schar and Smith were trying to sell their bets on the team.

The development comes as the team seems increasingly likely to change its name amid renewed pressure, given the national focus on human rights and social justice after George Floyd’s death in Minnesota.

Coach Ron Rivera told The Post on Saturday that he has been working with Snyder on a new team nickname for the past few weeks. And the team announced Friday that it “will undergo a thorough review” of the nickname.
