Reds Pirates game postponed if player gets coronavirus

MLB was forced to suspend games Saturday and Sunday between the Reds and Pirates in Cincinnati after an unidentified Reds player tested positive for the coronavirus a day earlier, The Post’s Joel Sherman reported.

The development comes because baseball was in the process of repairing two separate outbreaks of coronavirus on the Marlins and Cardinals that disrupted the first few weeks of the 2020 season.

MLB has not played a full schedule of games since July 26th.

The Cardinals were set to play their first game on Saturday since July 29 after 18 positive tests between players and staff derailed their schedule. Outside of the Cardinals and Reds, no teams have taken a positive coronavirus test since July 30th.

Baseball teams are not allowed to reveal the names of players who test positive for coronavirus without player permission.

The Reds had COVID-19 problems earlier in the season, with third basemen Mike Moustakas and outfielder Nick Senzel reporting symptoms and days on the injured list before negative tests allowed them to return to the field.

Striker Joey Votto spent one day at IL before returning and although Matt Davidson tested positive, his follow-up tests were negative and led the team to believe that his first result was a false positive.

The Reds and Pirates will now likely be subject to increased coronavirus testing, as the two teams came away in an 8-1 Cincinnati win Friday.
