Reds Game Theme: Cincy Ballers vs Fred’s Reds – Game 2

The Cincy Ballers defeated the Fred’s Reds 5-1 in the opening game of the Cincinnati Reds Summer Series on Friday night to take a 1-0 lead in the best series of three over the weekend. If you missed it, two coaches selected teams from the 60-player pool to host a series this weekend, and the winning team will have a day off on Monday before hosting the Detroit Tigers for two games on Tuesday and Wednesday before opening day on Friday.

Today the two teams will return to that at 6:10 pm ET. There are six players slated to pitch in-game tonight: Anthony DeSclafani, Lucas Sims, Amir Garrett, Nate Jones, Justin Shafer, and Robert Stephenson.

Tonight is also slated to be the first scrimmage game to feature broadcasters. A few days ago, the Reds started making the “crowd” noise during the game and broadcasts, but we haven’t had any field-level audio or anyone in the booth yet. Once those things come in, I think things will start to sound more normal, even if there is a false noise from the crowd.

Cincinnati Reds News and Notes

Nick Castellanos “okay”, but he won’t play today

After being hit on the back by a Tyler Mahle fastball on Friday night and leaving the game, David Bell said Nick Castellanos is fine, but he was a little sore and that he had the day off today, but he was expected to play tomorrow.

The reds made six cuts on Friday

In case you missed it, the Cincinnati Reds made six cuts on Friday, sending Aristides Aquino, Jose Garcia, Matt Bowman, Joel Kuhnel, Justin Shafer and Tyler Thornburg to the “alternative sites” list. All of those players except Tyler Thornburg are on the “Summer Series” rosters for one of the two teams and will continue to play, but will not be on the opening day roster unless there is an injury that opens a place for them at this point.
