Finally, there was football on Wednesday, or at least something resembling football, as the Seahawks took the field for the first time in 2020 training camp. In a normal year, the Seahawks would play their first preseason game later this week, but this year has been anything but normal due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so the first two weeks of training camp consisted of testing and a disaster period. to get players ready for practice.
“For us, this is an important first day,” said Seahawks coach Pete Carroll. “This is the first time we get everyone on the field at the same time, working together, wearing helmets to the whole thing, it’s starting to play a little bit. Everyone is really scared and enthusiastic and weird to go. We all love this game so much and have to wait forever so guys are excited to work here.It was a great first day for us.The construction of it has worked pretty well.clean up, and it’s OK for these guys. They are in pretty good shape and they are ready to go. Friday is really the first full-speed exercise for us, we’ll see how that works and we’ll see how we recover from it, and if we do, we’re on our way. ”
Wednesday’s work is more like a walk through than a full-speed practice and does not involve any mishandling vs. defensive work, and pads will not continue until early next week, but it was nevertheless refreshing to see something on football again at the VMAC, so with that, here are five observations from Wednesday’s practice:
1. Jamal Adams makes a good first impression.
The speed of practice and lack of contact means that Jamal Adams can not fully see what he can still do from a physical point of view, but the All-Pro safety that was acquired last month in a trade with the Jets already makes a lot of sense. good early impression on his new team with his mentality and work ethic.
“He’s really sharp, he’s really competitive in the sense that he really cares that he wants to know all the details, he wants to be corrected, he wants to be helped, he wants to be taught, coached and all that,” Carroll said. “He has a unique focus that some great players we have really shown. I just know he’s the real deal. You can see it on film, you can see it when you meet him, and he gets along very well. He has really high expectations for what he will bring to the team and how he will help, but he also has a really cool approach to it that he knows he deserves it every step of the way, and that’s a “Great combination. Not too much of himself. He wants to be a great player, but he wants to work for it. That’s all we can ask.”
