Texas A&M and soccer coach Jimbo Fisher They were punished Thursday by the NCAA after the Division I Violations Committee discovered that the program violated NCAA recruitment policies that occurred between January 2018 and February 2019. The ruling resulted in several strikes for Aggies, who will not be able to recruit to campus during the fall, among other sanctions announced by the NCAA.
Fisher issued a statement shortly after the NCAA’s announcement that its program violated NCAA recruitment laws:
“As the Texas A&M head football coach, I am responsible for promoting and monitoring NCAA compliance in our program,” the statement read. “While I am disappointed with the violations, including an unintentional one that resulted from a conversation with a high school athlete, it is still my responsibility to make sure I follow each and every rule.
“I am pleased to have this issue fully behind our program and look forward to continuing our efforts to make every aspect of our program one that all Aggies can be proud of.”
Mitigated Tier II penalties were issued against Texas A&M football and the former assistant coach Jay Graham, while standard Level II sanctions were issued against Fisher.
