Rays Switch Brendan McKay

The Rays have shut down young leftists Brendan McKay on account of tightness in his pitching shoulder, relief Tampa Bay Times Marc Topkin. The two-way player had worked back from a positive COVID-19 test at the Rays’ alternative training site before the team had to reseal him.

There is no word on how long McKay will be out from this injury. Unfortunately, however, shoulder problems are nothing new for McKay, a former fourth overall choice who treated her like a rookie in 2019, as manager Kevin Cash pointed out.

“Brendan has noticed that he has some issues, even dating from last year,” Cash told Topkin. “After his start in San Diego (on August 13) he said he did not feel well. I’m not entirely sure he’s completely gone he has no problem. “

McKay passed away last August 13th. He even appeared in three of the Rays’ five playoff games in their ALDS loss to the Astros. For that, he concluded the regular season with 49 innings of 5.14 ERA / 4.03 FIP ball and 10.29 K / 9 against 2.94 BB / 9.

As healthy, McKay could have been a factor in a Rays rotation that is currently missing Charlie Morton en Yonny Chirinos, who are on the injured list. And the Rays staff may have taken another hit on Tuesday if it’s right Andrew Kittredge put their game out against the Red Sox in the first inning due to “discomfort” in his pitching arm, per Juan Toribio of MLB.com. Tampa Bay replaced Kittredge with righty John Curtiss.
