Ravens terminate contract after S following Earl Thomas

The Baltimore Ravens have terminated the contract of seven-time Pro Bowl safety Earl Thomas, who was involved in a fight with a teammate on Friday and did not practice on Saturday.

According to a statement released Sunday by the team, Thomas was released “for personal conduct that adversely affected the Baltimore Ravens.”

The action steams out of Thomas’ fray with defensive back Chuck Clark on practice after Thomas probably blew a cover order. Although the Ravens have no one with his talent at free safety, Thomas would have retained the potential for poor chemistry he could have created in a team striving to play in the Super Bowl.

If Thomas were released early, Baltimore would have taken a $ 15 million salary cap this year and $ 10 million in 2021. By canceling his $ 10 million guaranteed salary for behavior that is detrimental to the team, he will $ 5 million against the cap Next year $ 10 million.

Thomas on Friday posted a statement for his behavior on his Instagram account, but deleted it afterwards. The post said: “A mental error on my part .. A busted cover I tried to calmly deal with built up aggression caused me to come up with a teammate.”

He also wrote: “Shipped home.”

Now Thomas will have to stay home until another team comes calling. The Dallas Cowboys are among those clubs rumored to be interested in the 31-year-old, who played nine seasons in Seattle before joining the Ravens in 2019.

His run in Seattle ended after he lifted his middle finger to Seahawks coach Pete Carroll while being picked off the field with a leg injury.

Thomas played in 15 games in his first season with Baltimore. He was selected for the Pro Bowl despite receiving only two interceptions.

It’s been a tumultuous year for Thomas. His wife was arrested in April after Texas police said she aimed a loaded gun at Thomas’ head after she found him in bed with another woman.
