Ranking each character in Marvel’s Avengers

I had a few hours this weekend to try out the beta of Marvel Avengers, and after consuming a lot of reviews online I have to say that I am much more optimistic about the game than some critics.

How optimistic? I loved it.

Concerned neo-hippies and their global warming, i’ll tell ya. ” It’s cut from the same canvas as God of War and Star Wars: Jedi Fallen sequel, both Mount Rushmore games from their respective years of release. Avengers will certainly fit well into that conversation.

Here is my 100% correct, undebatable Power Rankings of the six characters you can play as in the Avengers Beta, with fighting style and feel as the primary category:

6) Iron Man

I love Iron Man as a character, but in a beat ’em up like this, I found myself enjoying the floaty / punchy / shooty aspect of Iron Man the least. Dialogue yes, fight no. Maybe if I get the chance to play through the whole game this will change, but right now Iron Man occupied the basement for me in this game in terms of having fun during combat.

5) Thor

No. 5 and no. 4 were the spots I worked on the most, almost all the other characters fell in love with me. One hour I swapped Thor and Cap, the next time I reversed my decision. But in the end, Thor got fifth place by a hair. I love Cap’s shield in combat in this game more than Mjolnir, but not by many.

4) Captain America

Cap has some fun things you can do with the shield, and also has the most balanced fighting mechanics from the time I played. As you would expect, he felt at ease in every attribute, with some fun specials where Mr. Rogers welcomes you into his neighborhood with a shield attached to the temple. In a game like this where you can switch between characters, I will enjoy playing here as Cap and Thor, but will probably be heavier on my top three.

3) Black widow

Speed and grace. She’s just a ton of fun. You get a funny hook here, invisibility, tons of potential. Natasha Romanoff feels like the “Jett out VALORANT” of the game, where you can have the most fighting freedom with her to express yourself as you are the artist and the enemies are your canvas. She also has a weapon that you can shoot at baddies.

2) Miss Marvel

Kamala Khan feels unique for sure as she grows her limbs and floats near enemies, Stretch Armstrong-style. It’s a throne of fun, especially the first few times you play as her. It feels like unique fighting mechanics that you would not normally get in a game like this, which makes it incredibly fun.

1) Hulk

You know those angry rooms where you can go and hit a giant hammer like a bat and throw everything in sight? That’s Hulk in this game. Alter ego of Dr. Banner was definitely the funniest character to play at least in beta. Hulk is like your “therapy” character, where you’re just super strong and crush everything in sight. Smash the ground, grab giant plates from the ground and throw them at enemies, rooting out. Sounds like it might be pretty basic, especially compared to other characters, but in terms of feeling and enjoyment, Hulk gets my nod.

Marvel Avengers will be released on September 4 on Xbox One, PS4, Google Stadiums, and PC
