Shinji Mikami, director of Capcom, is celebrating its 30th anniversary in the video game industry this year. To mark this special occasion, he has made a lengthy visit with a discussion of every matter under the sun about his long-running career with asceticism.

During a section, it reflects on it Resident Evil 4, Which, as you may recall, was exclusive to the original Nintendo GameCube. Ahead of the game’s launch, Capcom signed a deal with Nintendo, and the reason behind this is believed to be beyond its own concern for the video game industry at the time.

Mikami explained to him how Sony is concerned “if the PlayStation 2 doesn’t work” they are just the best of the best and could go back to what they are known for. Apparently he felt the same way about the Micro .ft and its original Xbox. That leaves him with only one option:

“At the time, I was thinking, ‘Well, Nintendo will be the only one left in the future that will have games for people – not just kids, but adults as well.’ That was the thinking at the time. “

He admitted he got it “wrong” – Sony is now up to its fifth PlayStation console release, and on its fourth iteration of the Xbox hardware from MicroSt.

Mikami, as you may have heard before, was also adamant about keeping the resident Evil 4 special to Nintendo, when the conversation started about putting it on another platform. At one point he put his job on the line:

“I remember Susmito Kenzo-san, chairman of Capcom, who called me and asked, ‘Aren’t we really going to be on another platform?’ And I had to say, ‘Well, if you want to do that, you can do it, but you have to fire me first.’

Eventually, he realized a multi-platform release – the game sold 10 million copies during its lifetime. If you’ve got all of this in the mood for some Resident Evil 4, it’s available for download from SwitchShop.
