Random: Nintendo puts new image of Mario in the sunshine, internet goes wild again

Once again, Nintendo has unintentionally – or maybe intentionally – pleaded fans to think that a new Super Mario Sunshine release is on the cards.

Both the official European and UK Nintendo Twitter accounts have shared a new render of Mario enjoying his time in the sun today, probably thanks to the fact that the UK and many parts of Europe are currently enjoying something beautiful intense heat. Even though this new render has been doing the rounds for a few days, the responses to the tweets are somewhat noticeable.

It seems that many fans believe that the messages are a nod to a Super Mario Sunshine sequel, or perhaps a hint that the rumored 35th anniversary remasters will be revealed soon. Some will make jokes, of course, but it all causes quite a bit.

Well, we would not be doing our job well without telling you that Nintendo is releasing a new render of Mario every summer, regardless of potential upcoming games. In fact, when Nintendo unveiled its new summer version this time last year, it even had the cheek to mention the word “sunshine” in the title of the photo. And yes, the internet went wild then too.

So, does this new image mean that a Sunshine-related announcement is really coming this time around? Well, we would argue that it is completely unrelated, although it’s hard to believe that Nintendo would not be aware of the madness that caused last year’s image.

Let’s write our hype for now for now. If any official announcement appears in the coming months, we’ll be sure to let you know.
