Random: Astronomical discovery in the logo of Super Mario Galaxy

Super Mario Galaxy

This is probably not the type Super Mario Galaxy article that you hope or expect to see around the time of the Nintendo Mascot’s 35th Anniversary Celebration, but here we are … Twitter user and “starboy” CometMedal has closely examined the 2007 Wii Entry logo.

So what did they find? An edited image of the Andromeda Galaxy, originally taken by Robert Gendler in 2005. Here is the full episode, along with some comparison photos:

“I found the full image of the galaxy pictured in the Super Mario Galaxy logo – an edited image of Andromeda Galaxy, taken by Robert Gendler in 2005. It takes some hard work to confirm, but I pulled it off.”

Although the Andromeda Galaxy is depicted in the Super Mario Galaxy logo, the game – to our knowledge – is simply set in outer space above the Mushroom Kingdom. However, if you want to try this galaxy, you may want to check out the 2017 EA title, Mass effect: Andromeda.

In case you didn’t know, the Andromeda Galaxy is the closest major galaxy to our own, the Milky Way.
