Ram explains why it took four years to launch the TRX

We all know the saying that good things come to those who wait. We also know that waiting too long can lead to a missed opportunity. Fortunately, it seems that Ram took care of the adoption of the former despite being a little late for the party. The 2021 Ram 1500 TRX was finally unveiled just a few days ago, and it appears to be one gate of a truck, ready to pick up its Blue Oval rival and then some.

If there was any indication of the market’s reception to go fast off-road trucks with the design and the possibilities to match, then we just need to see how long the public has been waiting for some real competition in this segment . Muscle Cars & Trucks spoke with Senior Brand Manager Carl Lally about the four-year wait and why it took so long to roll the ball.

Of course, while we all knew Ram was about to come up with a direct rival to the Ford Raptor, nothing was really confirmed. Back in 2016, Ram released the amazing Rebel TRX concept, packing a Hellcat V8 with more than 500 horsepower and some upgraded goodies. It looked like something that could be quickly followed in production, but Ram stopped short, and decided despite the pressing demand to make it a reality to remain somewhat quiet. The main reason was simple: it just had to be done.

‘Back in ’16 it was a concept, and we just wanted to see what the appetite was for a truck like this. Of course it was very positive, ”said Lally. The current generation Ram 1500 was still in development, and they felt more comfortable from a clean slate, hence the wait for the next generation. “Instead of marking and smashing an engine in the truck, we wanted to take our time to make sure we get it right, from top to bottom.”

It looks like that, because Ram has some overwhelmingly positive responses from the audience. Oh, and Ford has also taken into account rumors of a V8 version of the new generation Ford Raptor in the works.
