Raheem Mostert spoke to the 49ers in an attempt to “clean the air”

Running back Raheem Mostert was looking for a new 49ers contract this offseason and made a trade request earlier this month when a new deal failed to materialize.

The trade has not materialized either and that is unlikely to change before the 49ers are slated to show up at training camp next week. That may be why Mostert has recently contacted the team.

NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reports that Mostert spoke to an unidentified high-ranking member of the 49ers’ headquarters in an effort to “clean the air” following his trade request. Mostert’s agent, Brett Tessler, told Rapoport that he hopes the conversation will pave the way for the situation to be resolved.

Mostert is heading into the second year of the three-year deal he signed after playing a special team role during his early years with the Niners. Mostert took the lead for much of last season and that change fueled his momentum for a revised contract.
