Kelly He was put in a really bad place by the guards at the Chicago jail where he is locked up, and then ignored his worries of being in danger before the attack … according to his legal team.
The lawyers of the insulted singer, Steven Greenberg And Nicole Blanc Baker, Tell TMZ … Animosity towards Kelly inside the Metropolitan Correctional Center Many prison guards were telling inmates that they had to go on lockdown due to protests outside R.Kelly’s facility.
Kelly’s legal team suggests it’s strange for the guards to make such an announcement, and believes this has caused other inmates to resent them.
We are told, 3 weeks before Kelly’s attack, she overheard her alleged assailant – a fellow inmate – talking on the phone outside her cell and saying that he would attack the singer.
According to Kelly’s side … he expressed his concern to the prison guard the other day when Kelly allegedly had to ride in the elevator just like a managing prisoner, saying he did not trust her. We’ve been told they’ll ride along anyway.
A few days later … Kelly accused a medical doctor that he wanted the guards to stop telling everyone that it was the cause of the lockdown because the other prisoners had gone insane.
The singer claims he also told at least 2 other guards that he was afraid for his safety. The attack took place in 2-3 weeks … but they say they do not take his concerns seriously.
We broke the story … a missing prisoner allegedly went to Kelly’s cell and Started kicking him. The fight did not last long and Kelly suffered no major injuries, but the fight shows that she is not immune to being the target of violence.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation has declined to comment on the incident, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office has not responded to requests for comment for the Northern District of Italiano and the Eastern District of New York.
