Qibi, a troubled streaming service focused on the “quick bite” of mobile-first content, has recently launched apps for Apple Pull TV, Android TV and Fire TV. The company quietly announced the change in an updated support article.
This follows Qibi’s ongoing efforts to get a closer look at its content after launching it as a mobile-only app. The company first made the content more shareable in May, and immediately thereafter with AirPlay and Chromecast support.
Unfortunately for Qibi, these changes to the early mobile-first strategy may be too late. A new report in Information Co-founder Jeffrey Katzenberg claims to have tried to sell Qibi’s programming to Facebook and NBC Universal, while others say he may have to shut down the company altogether.
Quibi has struggled since its release, dealing with a backlash over its first content collection and a drop in subscribers after its offered 0-day trial ended. Perhaps the epidemic has played a role in deterring consumers from re-subscribing, but really QB has never made a big case for itself in the first place.
It’s great for Qibi fans that there are so many more ways to see the service, but if the company doesn’t fix itself properly, there won’t be any way to see it soon.
