Purdue’s Jeff Brohm shares proposal for spring season with an influence from Jim Harbaugh

Purdue head football coach Jeff Brohm wants to play football when it’s safe to do so and has shared a spring proposal to make a season in the spring. It also includes some Jim Harbaugh flavor for good measure.

Brohm suggests that the pre-season training season would begin mid-January ahead of an eight-week season that would begin in early February and late May. To give players time to heal and train enough, he says the 2021 fall season should not start until October.

Brohm’s proposal includes the teams playing six games in the division and ensuring that the schedule is outlined early to where the teams further south will host these matchups to begin the season. The scheme would also include one crossover game with the opposing division.

Next up is where the Harbaugh influence comes into play, as Brohm says the eighth game would be a crossover matchup with the team in the same spot in the standings as you are. For example, first place in the East would play first in the West, second place would play second place, and so on.

“This idea was raised by Coach Harbaugh and discussed among Big Ten coaches on various calls as they discussed a fall plan,” Brohm wrote. “I think it also has merits for the spring.”

Brohm’s season would run from February 27 to April 17 with the College Football Playoff taking place between May 1 and May 15. He proposes in one scenario six play-offs with the Power 5 conference champions and one wild card and first round byes for the top two seed. The other would have the Big Ten Championship and Rose Bowl as playoffs with four teams.

ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg said Brohm’s proposal was accompanied by player health and safety and has seen a massive cut in padded practices.

Another day, another proposal. How do we feel about these, people? Sounds off in the comments below.
