Although the switch is a hybrid surprise, the system can get very hot when you’re playing more demanding titles or enjoying longer play sessions. And like any device, it’s likely to get hotter with age.
If you have ever noticed that your own system is too hot to handle, you can continue reading. YouTube Channel and Repair Store – Asuka Repair Hall Co. Ltd. – has seen an increase in overheating switches in recent times and claims it is not caused by common hardware issues – such as a fan or CPU issue.
In a video upload to YouTube, Asuku uses a thermal monitor on the Nintendo Switch, claiming that the bottom right of the repair console is above 70 degrees Celsius (158 degrees Fahrenheit) and goes up to 79.8 degrees Celsius.
The problem is believed to be connected to the metal Joy-Con rail on the right side of the system – which has accumulated a lot of dust and debris over time. To prevent the same thing from happening to your own system, Video Switch advises owners to regularly clean the system’s slider rails by spreading air in a warm area near the rail and then brushing with a dry toothbrush.
In this special video, the rail is easily changed and the temperature drops by about half, to about 41 degrees Celsius (about 105 degrees Fahrenheit) below. If this does not resolve the issue, Asuka Repair Switch advises owners to check their system immediately.
