PSA: Google Meet to limit meetings to 60 minutes on free plans on September 30th

Google said in April that it would allow unlimited length meetings for all users in its Google Meet video chat platform until September 30th, and it looks like the company is sticking to that timeline. After September 30, free versions of the meet will be limited to meetings longer than 60 minutes.

A Google spokesperson said: “We have nothing to discuss regarding changes to the promo and changes to the advanced features.” Edge An email on Friday. “If this changes, we’ll make sure to let you know.”

Under the extension, anyone with a Google Account can create free meetings with up to 100 people, and without a time limit.

Going September 30 is the access to advanced features for G Suite and G Suite for education customers, including allowing up to 250 participants’ meetings, live-streams of 100,000 people in a single domain, and the ability to save meeting recordings to Google Drive. Those features are usually only available to customers on G Suite’s “Enterprise” tires, which cost 25 25 per month.

Google Meet and other ritual conferencing platforms have been chasing Zoom’s meteorite during the coronavirus epidemic since it met 100 million daily participants in April.

Of course, for most users who do not want to upgrade to a paid meet plan, what this means is that they will have to limit their conference calls to 60 minutes or less. No … really seeing a negative vision there.
