PS5 uses Bluetooth 5.1, Wi-Fi 6 for improved performance

PS5 PlayStation 5 1

Documentation submitted by Sony in Peru shows that the PlayStation 5 will benefit from Bluetooth 5.1 and Wi-Fi 6, which means that the wireless performance will be better than the existing PlayStation 4. While it is hardly a surprise that the Japanese giant is the latest using standards available for the next console, it’s good to have some sort of confirmation.

For example, Bluetooth 5.1 support can connect multiple audio devices to the same console, with less interference in confined spaces. The original PS4 used Bluetooth 2.1, while the PS4 Pro upgraded it to Bluetooth 4.0, so it would have to prove a decent upgrade. A newer Bluetooth 5.2 is available, but probably the manufacturer did not get access to it in time.

Wi-Fi 6 should meanwhile help to reduce latency, closing between wireless and wired connections. Once again, these are the kind of improvements that the average consumer does not really notice, but it’s good to know that the platform holder uses the best possible components in the system – after all, it helps.
