UPDATE, 7/13: Amazon’s PS5 reservation page has been published, more or less. The page is more of a placeholder, showing the PS5’s hardware and software library capabilities. There’s still no option to order anything, and there’s no price or release date listed.
The price and release date of the PS5 remain a mystery, but we might get to know them before the end of the day, if you take the semi-trusted leaks on Twitter seriously. Two prominent PS5 predictors have linked pre-orders to start today (July 13), but there is no real evidence beyond what they say. It is not impossible, but there is still no evidence that Sony plans to share its PS5 plans.
The information comes from our sister site, Laptop Magazine, which collected tweets from two PS5 leakers on Twitter: IronManPS5 and Roberto Serrano. The first is a popular PlayStation fanatic; the latter is an Italian analyst. Both have called the dates and times of PlayStation events in the past with some precision, although they have also been wrong, especially when it comes to the price of the PS5 and the release date.
In any case, IronManPS5 claimed that PS5 preorders would “start on Monday” and, to be fair, Monday is not yet over. Serrano, on the other hand, stated that they would come out live at 12:30 am PT, which, at the time of writing, was more than 12 hours ago. If you were referring to PM instead of AM, I suppose there is still a possibility, but it seems slim.
My advice is the same as always: don’t listen to leaks from incomplete sources, especially on social media. Wait for Sony to make an official announcement. It is not impossible that any of the leaks actually have internal Sony information, but as Serrano himself has pointed out, Sony is a flexible company and can change its mind at the last minute, just as it did when it delayed its June press conference. .
In any case, we will know in another 10 hours if Sony had a pre-order planned for today. If it happens, great; otherwise, it will only be another day or two until another filter claims to have solid control over when the preorder date will occur. Chances are, you’re wrong, and the cycle will repeat itself.
Only Sony knows when the PS5 will ship and how much the console will cost. It will start pre-ordering when it’s ready, and not a moment before. Some guesses will be better than others, and the law of averages suggests that someone, somewhere, is going to guess correctly, but the line between “substantial leak” and “educated guess” is extremely thin on social media.
In any case, we’ll be monitoring Sony’s social media accounts for the rest of the day, and if you want to do the same, it couldn’t hurt. On the other hand, I’m not going to pre-order a PS5 as soon as the option is available, and you might not want it either.
