The message in the source code says: “You can only buy one version of the PS5 console: disk or digital. You’ve already added a PS5 console to your cart. “
Sony previously limited one console per home when it placed the PlayStation 4 on pre-order, so this isn’t particularly new to the company. What is different this time is how Sony will sell two different versions of the PS5, but will keep one according to the household rule. Which means you can only order the PS5 or the digital PS5, but not both at the same time.
So even if you expect to order both a physical and digital PS5 console, there is a possibility that you may not be able to order it from the PlayStation Direct website. Although nothing prevents you from ordering a second PS5 from another retailer.
Other references in the source code uncovered a new tag (captured by you / Kgarvey) that Sony could add to PS4 games that indicate they are compatible with PS5. This new label could be used to indicate which PS4 games are compatible with the PS5, but user u / Kgarvey also suggests that it could be used to indicate whether hardware such as controllers is backward compatible.
Sony may be planning to sell the PS5 directly to customers, but since there are already product pages for the PS5 live on sites like Amazon, Best Buy, and the PS5 preorders are most likely not exclusive to the Sony store. The company also said that customers will receive a large amount of notice before the PS5 goes up to preorder, so when pre-ordering is made, customers will have a lot of information on when and where they can pre-order.
