Update, 9/24: Gamestep has confirmed that it will have more PS5 pre-order stock available tomorrow (Sept. 25), both through Body and its website. However, there is no mention of the initial time or how many consoles he plans to sell, so “check as soon as possible, check often” is probably the best advice here yet.
We’re pleased to announce that more PS5 consoles will be available for pre-order tomorrow, Friday 9/25, at https://t.co/hfsGYTcy0V and in game stop stores. pic.twitter.com/EbRMkAe5RWSeptember 24, 2020
The first wave of PS5 pre-orders is not going so well, but you potential buyers may get a second chance soon. GameStop may be preparing to sell another wave of PS5s as early as tomorrow (Sept. 25), but there are three important caveats: You must pre-order in person, you will not (probably) get a console on launch day, and every store Stock will not be available on. Consider warning yourself.
The information comes Wario 64: A popular Twitter personality who is often the first to jump on major game sales, pre-orders and other information related to buying games. We should warn readers, however, that in this case the source is the same employee at the same gamestop store, so perhaps “wandering to a gamestop during your lunch break” would be a more prudent strategy than camping out in front of your local store all night. “
GameStop will only pre-store for PlayStation 5 (Disk) this Friday. This will not be for PS5 Launch Day but will be within a week or two after the launch is not officially announced by Gamestop but I have heard from the same employee.September 23, 2020
He wrote, “The game will only do pre-introductions for the PlayStation 5 (disc) game stop on Friday. (At the time of writing, it’s tomorrow: September 25.) “These PS5s won’t be for launch day but will probably be within a week or two after launch.” Moreover, pre-order stock is not available in every gamestop.
There is nothing particularly foreign about this information. Sony has promised to continue replenishing PS5 pre-order stock between now and November, and Game Stop is one of the console retailers in the United States. In-store pre-orders also make sense. If the stock is limited, putting it online will not meet much demand, and if another website crashes it will result in many disappointed customers.
On the other side of the question, even if this information is accurate, it doesn’t seem like a good thing for new PS5 pre-orders. Physical game stop locations were not able to guarantee many units during the first pre-order wave, sometimes selling 10 or fewer per store. This seems like an equally limited opportunity, especially since not every store is guaranteed to get extra stock. The only way to know for sure seems to be to visit your local store tomorrow. You can also try calling, but the retailer will not pre-order on the phone so “in store” gives it a voice.
However, if you live close to the gameplop and are desperate to pre-order the PS5, it may not hurt to check. Just keep in mind that if you want the PS5 digital version, you’ll probably have to wait, as this round only seems to be for the disk-enabled version. (There are many reasons why GameStop would prefer a disc-based PS5, especially since retailers make more money on physical sales than digital ones.)
Otherwise, your best bet to pre-order the PS5 will be to keep checking back at the major retailers that are on the ret fur. Toms Guide has a dedicated PS5 pre-order page, and you can sign up for the latest updates on PS5 pre-order below. Alternatively, wait until the console comes out and is widely available. Either way, you can get most of the launch titles on other systems.
