The potential new detail for the PS5 design It was seen in what appears to be leaked images from a PS5 production facility, as first published in a Chinese forum then picked up by ResetEra. The images show what appears to be the inside of the white plates attached to both sides of the PS5. They appear to snap into place with a series of slightly raised frames, rather than being secured with screws or adhesive.

It is possible that the images have been falsified or that they do not reflect the final design of the console, so it is worth treating any inference made with a critical eye. However, assuming they are accurate to the final product, it seems Sony might be setting up the PS5 as the easiest console to customize.
Sony may not be arguing PS5 special editions and alternate colors still because you’re saving interchangeable boards as a surprise – if you can just pop them out and attach new ones at will, it would be easier than ever for the company to sell matching designs for new games, controllers, and maybe even independent artist collaborations or fashion brands.
Microsoft took a similar approach to interchangeable faceplates on the original Xbox 360, but this would change the look of almost the entire PS5 console (aside from the black core). We’ll be watching more details about this potential new feature.
