The PS5 was able to resolve one of gamers’ biggest frustrations with the PS4. New leaked details of PS5 DualSense controller show that you need to get a lot more gaming time before you see a low battery warning.
Tweeter @ Galaxy666 Dgot reportedly got its hands on the PS5 controller, posting a tweet featuring 4 corners of the DualSense controller, including a close-up of its specifications. And although most of that detail is not in English, we can clearly see “1560mAh”, which @ Galaxy666 marks in its title, the battery capacity of the controller.
The current DualShock 4 controller, as originally confirmed in the fine print of a Sony press release, has an internal battery capacity of 1000 mAh.
So, there you have it, the battery of the PS5 controller could be 50% larger than its predecessors, and that means it could take that much longer than the PS4 controller. However, there is a chance that the haptic feedback from the DualSense controller and custom triggers could cause an increased demand on battery life.
hands on # PS5 controller # Dualsense5, just got a brief test on it. The battery capacity is 1560mA, much more than the PS4 one. pic.twitter.com/bS0wako69JAugust 12, 2020
While we’re testing this out when we get the PS5 in our dock, this report is consistent with what we reported last week, when Reddit user viper_on_fire claimed that the DualSense should take about three to four hours longer than the DualShock.
And as far as I can attest, that’s about as long as I last saw the DualShock on my PS4, although the battery life has recently become a bit shorter since I’ve been using it since 2014.
This increased battery size will be a nice advantage for the PS5 controller. Meanwhile, the Xbox Series X controller will ship without an internal battery, forcing customers to purchase AA batteries for a charging kit as often as last spring.
The gamers I know are divided on replaceable batteries vs rechargeable controller. The former camp appreciates the ability to refuel a controller directly while I am in the latter camp and for less reason wants to spend money on batteries (which also feel disgusting). However, I also do not like to take a break.
