Pro-police protesters clash with BLM protesters in Colorado

Counter-attackers were involved in a violent confrontation with pro-police supporters at a Back the Blue rally in Fort Collins, Colo, on Saturday, which ended with the arrests of three people.

Pro-police attendees said two different groups of counter-protesters – consisting of supporters of Black Lives Matter and some members of Antifa turned out to be – attended the event. They also claimed that a faction of one of those two groups was attacking a veteran who was sitting in a wheelchair, according to The Collegian.

Clips shown on an Instagram account of a rally-goer showed a screaming scene of several protesters hitting each other as people shouted and cursed while watching.

Another attendee can be heard on the video saying, “Keep hitting each other in the face, but don’t shoot anyone.”

Ciara Wilson, a local high school student who filmed part of the fight, said there were no police to be found as opposing sides slammed into each other in the meadow.

“Once they get out of the way of the police station down the street, it just goes into a loud brawl in the middle of a grassy area,” she told The Collegian. “10 to 15 people stepped on top of each other. Chokeholds, batons, hit it all in the face, and there was no police. ‘

A Black Lives Matter rally was held earlier that day at Colorado State University. Some of those rallygoers went to the police station to start a counter-protest.

At first it seemed to be a peaceful conversation between members of both groups. Once the second group of anti-racism protesters — dressed all in black and thought to be Antifa– appeared, things escalated and became violent.

Witnesses claimed that the disguised agitators verbally harassed the pro-police protesters.

FCPS Public Relations Manager Kate Kimble sent an email to The Collegian saying the ‘physical disturbances’ near the station ended with three arrests and one citation.

In the booking report, two men and one woman were arrested for disorderly conduct and behavior. One of the men was also booked for proving possession of an illegal weapon, while another was charged with resisting arrest.

“We respect everyone’s right to come together calmly to express their concerns,” Kimble added. “For the safety of our community, acts of violence, destruction of property and other unlawful conduct will not be tolerated.”
