When Joe Biden is ready to announce his running mate, a new national poll shows that the former vice president has a 10 percent lead over President Trump among registered voters.
According to a poll released by Monmouth University on Tuesday, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee tops Republican commitment in the White House 51% -41%. The survey indicates that 4% of voters polled support third-party candidates, with 4% not deciding.

Biden’s 10-point lead over the president is down from a 13-point advantage in the previous Monmouth University poll, which was conducted in late June. The release of the new interview comes a day after a national survey by the Georgetown University Battleground suggested that former Vice President Trump tops with 13 points.
An average of all recent national polls compiled by Real Clear Politics puts Biden ahead of Trump by 7.2 points. That’s down from a 10-point advantage the presumptive Democratic nominee enjoyed at the end of June in the Real Clear Politics average.
“Trump has stopped his slide in the polls, but Biden maintains an advantage among all registered voters nationwide,” noted Monmouth University Polling Institute director Patrick Murray.

Biden holds smaller one-figure lead over Trump in the latest poll in many of the major general election battle states that decide the White House race. Hillary Clinton also led Trump in the most national and important campaign of the city land at this point in the 2016 cycle. The Democratic nominee won the national referendum by two points – but Trump took care of Clinton in many of ‘ the crucial swing states, and gave him a victory from the Electoral College to win the White House.
The president’s favorable / unfavorable rating stands at 40% -54% in the Monmouth poll, a slight improvement from the end of June. Biden’s favorable / unfavorable rating stands at 42% -47%, a slight decrease from the previous Monmouth poll.
Just over 6 in 10 voters in the poll said they were very or somewhat confident that the general election would be conducted honestly and accurately, with 36% saying they were not trustworthy. Nearly three-quarters said they were concerned about potential election mediation. A large number of Democrats said they were concerned about mediation by a foreign power, with 40% pointing fingers at Russia. They are also concerned about interference by the President and the GOP. A significant amount of Republicans are raising their concerns about Democratic interference.
The president has repeatedly claimed for months that the extension of the postal vote would lead to a “rigged” election and “voter fraud.”
Fifty-eight percent of voters said it’s a good idea to make it easier to toss ballots by mail – thanks to health concerns about personal votes amid the coronavirus pandemic. Thirty-seven percent said it was a bad idea. There is a broad party distribution, with 90% of Democrats and 60% of independents, but just 20% of Republicans suggest making voting by mail easier.

The Monmouth University Poll was conducted on 6-10 August, with live telephone operators surveying 785 registered voters nationwide. The sampling error of the survey is plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
